Crust of the Polygon by Norihiko Terayama

Some of our favourite things to look at in the shop right now are Norihiko Terayama’s dynamic sculptures. The collection we have in view is from his Crust of the Polygon series, that explores the beauty of an object after its purpose has been fulfilled.

Each sculpture is composed of an item found washed up on the ocean shore. Terayama then entangles each in a threaded polygon structure and the contrast between the two silhouettes makes the beauty of the shapes even more apparent.

Gifting Favourites

As the holiday season quickly approaches we’ve had a lot of gift browsing happening in the shop! Here are some of our current favourites we love to give as gifts..

Sirkel Tea Light Holder

These captivating small objects are designed by the wonderful Anderssen & Voll for Nedre Foss. Sirkel is the Norwegian word for Circle. The colour intensity shifts with the changing thickness of the material, leaving the impression of a solid ring of denser colour. Their main use is as a tea light holder, however they are also great for holding small food items such as sugar cubes or olives.

Hafod Grange Paperweights

Both the small Nigella Paperweight and Dandelion Paperweight, as well as the large Thistle Paperweight have recently been restocked! Made in the UK, Hafod Grange has been producing these beautiful objects since 1968. Clear polyester resin, containing a UV filter to stop fading, is used to embed the botanical specimens without destroying them, as molten glass would, and the globe shape allows the specimen to be seen in its beauty from all angles. Their natural beauty makes these one of our favourites for gifting!

Fire Tool Collection by Thom Fougere

These colder days also have us wanting to curl up and keep warm! Some of our favourite winter items for keeping warm include both the Mjölk Firewood Hutch and the Mjölk Fire Tools. All are designed by Thom Fougere and made locally in Toronto, Canada. Pictured above is the Firewood Hutch in the showroom. Its thin brass frame is sturdy yet delicate, in contrast with the massive firewood which it holds.

The Fire Tools are the result of a long term study into man's historical relationship with fire, hearths, and the tools used for tending to a fire. Our history with fire is an important one, deeply embedded within our being. Fire itself is a tool that provides a means of warmth and nourishment; we are instinctively drawn to its presence. The design for the Fire Tools was inspired through studying tools of the past and how these tools have evolved over time. Available in both oak and walnut finishings.
