Crust of the Polygon by studio note

New works by studio note have arrived in the shop! This includes a large collection of Norihiko Terayama’s sculptures from his Crust of the Polygon series. The series explores the beauty of an object after its purpose has been fulfilled.

Each sculpture is composed of an item found washed up on the ocean shore. Terayama then entangles each in a threaded polygon structure and the contrast between the two silhouettes makes the beauty of the shapes even more apparent.

We are also happy to welcome back another beautiful design by Norihiko Terayama. Each f,l,o,w,e,r,s ruler displays a series of handpicked flower blossoms placed in 1cm increments. Each comes in a beautiful wooden box, making it a lovely choice for gifting.

New Arrivals: Watagabon Trays

We have also received a new shipment of trays from Japan! These kinds of trays were traditionally made by roof-shingle makers in the Village of Wagatani, Ishikawa, Japan. Hence the roof like ridges that adorn the tray. Each one is hand carved.

Most of these new arrivals are made by the well known Japanese artist Shinichi Moriguchi. Pictured above is Moriguchi’s Tannin Dyed Wagatabon Tray. Its warm and dark finish was created by using chestnut tannins to naturally dye the wood.
