Special Feature: Pine Island Cottage Recently here at the shop we have been admiring a new project by our dear friend and collaborator Thom Fougere. Both Thom and Adam Robinson (of Bureau Tempo) worked together to shape the interiors of Pine Island Cottage in Georgian Bay, Ontario. The new build was completed by Gren Weiss Architect & Associates and is nestled amidst a beautiful landscape. Details throughout the interior pay homage to natural elements found in the surrounding terrain, and we are so excited to notice many of our products amongst them. |
Pictured above: the Pine Island Cottage enveloped in landscape. |
Upon entering the main living area, the Tako Armchair in Walnut can be seen sitting in the kitchen dining nook. |
Meanwhile in the main dining space, a collection of Hiroshima Armchairs in Oak line a custom table. Both the Nunatak and Ildhane candle holders designed by Anderssen & Voll are also displayed, adding warmth to the space. |
The central heart of the home merges kitchen, dining and living spaces, but distinguishes them from one another through the use of materials and height. Pictured above: an expansive light well over the dining table contrasts beautifully to the sunken sitting room next to the fireplace. |
In the living area sits many of our favourite pieces, including the Little Petra VB2 upholstered in Sahara Sheepskin as well as the TMM Floor Lamp in Oak. This project was also the first home for Thom Fougere’s Fireside Rocking Chair (pictured below). |
In the master bedroom, the Dubois Bed designed by Luca Nichetto adds a soft complement to the use of natural fieldstone material echoed throughout the home. The SC13 Copenhagen Table Lamp sits atop the built in side tables. |
A stunning bathing room with a view, with the Hinoki Bath Stool sitting in the corner next to the bathtub. |
The natural elements trickle in through the details: the Wellbeing Nettle Runner from Nanimarquina lines the kitchen walkway and the Superfolk Oak Trivet hangs near by. Then pictured below waiting to add light to evening gatherings is the Cesta Floor Lamp from Santa & Cole. |

Finn Juhl Relaunch: Willadsen Series In the mid-20th century, Finn Juhl developed a close partnership with the furniture manufacturer Søren Willadsen, who operated a cabinetmaker's workshop in Vejen, Denmark. One of the many results of their collaboration was a sculptural sofa and lounge chair, known on the vintage market as the SW 50 Series. Now named the Willadsen Series, the pieces are masterful examples of Finn Juhl's artistic and unorthodox approach to design. |
|
The semi-oval gap allows the backrest to arch freely above the seat – a bold choice in 1950 that introduced a sense of lightness and showcased Finn Juhl's ability to redefine the traditional upholstered form. The rounded silhouette embraces the seated person in a dynamic gesture, while the slightly angled legs elevate the design and enhance its weightless quality. |
