A beautifully carved chestnut Wagatabon made by Shinichi Moriguchi. These trays were traditionally made by roof-shingle makers in the Village of Wagatani, Ishikawa, Japan. Hence the roof like ridges that adorn the tray.

This particular tray is made from a solid block of chestnut which is dyed naturally using chestnut tannins giving the wood a warm and dark finish.
