Soft Rocks is a series of hand-carved bookends and vases. These sculptural forms are inspired by the natural variation in the material and the inconsistency of the hand that forms them. The patterns and colours of the stone do not reveal themselves until polished. Their rough exterior hides their beauty beneath. Due to the variation of the material and the handmade mode of production, each piece is unique; no two alike.
Despite her architectural background, Elizabeth Lenny focuses on smaller-scale projects which allow for design and fabrication to happen simultaneously. She strongly believes that form is the result of correspondence between the material and maker. With this in mind, fabrication becomes an integral part of her design process, rather than a means to an end.
