John Baker’s sophomore album “Wreck in Progress” is a self reflection tackling themes of life and death, love and nature. The album was recorded at Pineship Studio, the first day of recording fell on the 2024 solar eclipse. Midway through the recording session, the musicians stepped outside onto the street to find the sound of the birds hushed and a temporary darkness hovering over the horizon. Like a lunar exhale the sky slowly brightened, the world started breathing again and the recording continued.

Denim folk rock and Cowboy hats are here, old corduroy jackets. The percussive sounds of 1960s Brazil, earth covered adobes, tape machines, Odyssean dog walks, and wild horses.

Accompanying John Baker is once again Mike O’Brien (Zeus) and Dani Nash (July Talk) as the foundational rhythm band. Additional support is provided by Carlin Nicholson (Zeus) pedal steel by Matt Kelly (City and Colour) and a horn section comprised of Andrew Moljgun and Arjuna (RJ) Satchithananthan.
