Biography

Born 1965 in Stockholm, Carina Seth Andersson studied at the Orrefors National School of Glass in 1987 and then completed her MFA at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design.

She has been working as an independent designer since 1993 and is known mainly for her distinctive yet purposeful glass and ceramic work. With utility as a foundation, she balances form and function to result in distinguished objects with timeless quality, whether they are for everyday use or exhibitions.

From studio productions in Gustavsberg to commissions for international producers such as Arket, Svenskt Tenn, Iittala and Marimekko, she transcends the traditional boundaries between art, craftsmanship and the commercial world. Assignments range from glass, ceramics and tableware to furniture design and large scale public installations. Carina Seth Andersson’s limited edition series as well as her unique pieces are produced out of her own studio.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in New York, Washington, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, London, Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Tokyo and Osaka. Her pieces are a part of the permanent collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen as well as the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.

Carina Seth Andersson spent many years as a senior lecturer at Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm, and is on the board of Capellagården, a craft and design college on the Swedish island of Öland.
