Materiality Chestnut, urushi lacquer
A beautifully carved chestnut tray by one of the most skilled wood worker in Japan, Kyoto based Shingo Tsukuda. These trays were traditionally made by roof-shingle makers in the Village of Wagatani, Ishikawa, Japan. Hence the roof like ridges that adorn the tray.
This particular tray is made from a solid block of chestnut which is coated in a tradition urushi lacquer.
